Wayne Hemingway MBE will provide the keynote opening address at the pioneering 3Market event at the University of Southampton on 9 February 2010.
In the first event of its kind, 3MARKET will provide opportunities for businesses to source more ethical products and services from local businesses which are driven by social purpose rather than shareholder gain. Social enterprises are fast becoming an attractive alternative for businesses looking to demonstrate ethical business practices, such as protecting the environment and supporting the local community.
Iain Lucas, Chair of the group organising 3MARKET, said: “We are delighted that Wayne Hemmingway is supporting the event. His business success is built on ethical trading and Hampshire businesses have a superb opportunity to benefit from his experience.” Deborah Wyatt from Business Link added: “The development of social enterprise is critical to the economic ambitions of the region. Ethical business is also good business as it can attract more customers and affect the bottom line.” She added: “We are extremely proud that Hampshire is leading the South East in providing real trading opportunities for social enterprises.”
Along with the exhibition of 30 social enterprises, the event will include several keynote speakers, seminars and networking opportunities and 3MARKET will also offer sponsorship opportunities for the event.
Further information can be obtained by visiting www.3market.org.

National Personal Safety Day is an annual event aimed at raising awareness of the simple, practical solutions that everyone can use to help avoid violence and aggression in today’s society. It’s about helping people live safer, more confident lives. Compared to many countries, public transport in the UK is remarkably safe. Some 6 billion journeys are made by bus, coach, cab, tram or rail each year and incidents of crime against passengers are very rare. However incidents do happen so it makes sense to take care whether travelling by bus, tram, train or cab.
The theme of National Personal Safety Day 2009, therefore, is safety on journeys involving public transport. The Suzy Lamplugh Trust points out that although the risk of crime happening is low, the perception of crime on public transport is much higher and this can act as a deterrent to many people. Often the journey is considered relatively safe but the journey to and from the bus stop and the environment surrounding the platform/bus stop is not. Therefore the aim of the Ready Steady SAFE campaign is not only to give the public the knowledge to be able to reduce the risks even further but also the confidence to use public transport without fear of becoming a victim of crime.

Total Coverage has worked with MEAM to design and produce a report outlining a four-point manifesto for tackling multiple needs and exclusions. The manifesto was launched at the Labour Party Annual Conference and will be presented again next week at the Conservative Party Conference.

‘Just a quick note to thank you and your colleagues for helping to produce such a good-looking report for MEAM in what was a very tight timescale. I’ve had some excellent feedback about its clarity of message and I’d be grateful if you could pass my thanks to all involved. I was very happy with how the front cover turned out on the printed publication so thank you for reassuring me on that throughout the final stages and for keeping us to timetable’. Oliver Hilbery, MEAM

The sun crosses the celestial equator and moves southward in the northern hemisphere during the September equinox. The location on the earth where the sun is directly overhead at solar noon is known as the subsolar point. The subsolar point occurs on the equator during the September equinox and March Equinox. At that time, the earth’s axis of rotation is perpendicular to the line connecting the centers of the earth and the sun. This is the time when many people believe that the earth experiences 12 hours of day and night. However, this is not exactly the case
